Vivaldi—Favorite Arias and Concerti
Since the group’s founding in 2018, Ensemble Jupiter has quickly established itself as a major force in the European early music scene. In the group’s United States debut—the first concert of their first American tour—Bay Area audiences will be treated to a treasure trove of Vivaldian gems, all sung and played by exceptional musicians from a new generation of performers.
From the luscious tones of mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre (recently described in Gramophone as “utterly persuasive”), to virtuosic concertos for lute and cello performed from Thomas Dunford—the “Eric Clapton of the lute” who charmed SFEMS audiences in 2019—and Bruno Philippe respectively, this is a can’t-miss concert from a group that will occupy a place in the early music firmament for years to come!
Thomas Dunford, lute and artistic director; Lea Desandre, mezzo-soprano; Rachell Ellen Wong and Augusta McKay Lodge, violins; Manami Mizumoto, viola; Bruno Philippe, cello; Douglas Balliett, double bass; Tom Foster, harpsichord and organ
