Mark your calendars! The Renaissance Singers Retreat will meet March 18–19, 2017 to start our 31st year. We will be singing a selection of Renaissance music conducted by Professor William P. Mahrt of Stanford.
We have often sung the ordinary of the mass in the Renaissance Singers’ Retreat, that is the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Angnus Dei. With this retreat, however, Prpfessor Mahrt has chosen to sing the propers of the mass which include those scriptural texts of the mass that change daily with the liturgical calendar and include the Introit, Gradual, Alleluia or Tract, Sequence, Offertory and Communion. We will sing works by many of the great composers of this era including Dufay, Isaac, Josquin, Byrd, Victoria, Morales and Lassus.
We will meet in room 110 of the Braun Music Center on the Stanford campus at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, and will sing, eat, and listen to lectures throughout the day until 5:00 p.m., when we will conclude our day with a sherry hour. We will resume on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. and continue in the same manner until 12:00 p.m., at which time we will break and go to St Ann Chapel, 541 Melville Avenue, Palo Alto, where we will perform at 4:00 p.m. for family and friends the music that we have prepared. Our director insists that the Sunday performance is a necessary part of the workshop for the participants.
The fee for the Retreat is $115, and scholarships are available. If you have questions please contact me [email protected] or 510-778-3253 or visit our website at www.renaissancesingersretreat.org where you find all the information and the registration form for download.
