“Bach, a Brew, and You: A Musical Sing-in” SFBC is taking over Standard Deviant Brewing for an evening of socializing and singing! Enjoy food, a cold beer, and a taste of the Bach Choir. Artistic Director Magen Solomon will lead us through highlights of our 2017–2018 season, including works by Praetorius, Grieg, Mendelssohn, plainchant and, of course, Bach, to name a few. Standard Deviant is even brewing a special bock for the occasion! Beer and food will be available for sale, featuring the Powered by Pork food truck (with pork, chicken, and veggie options). Grab a singing friend, and join us for a fun night of singing, food, companionship, and beer!

Ordo Virtutum Back by popular demand San Francisco Renaissance Voices (Katherine McKee, Music Director) acclaimed East-Indian infused production (“Hildegard’s music rang out anew,” … Los Angeles Times) of Ordo Virtutum (The Play of the Virtues) by the medieval mystic nun Hildegard von Bingen returns! One of the earliest extant liturgical musical dramas that provided the basis for the art form we now know as opera, Ordo Virtutum tells the story of the challenges of The Human Soul (Anime) as she is guided by The Virtues led by their queen Humility, to obtain wholeness of the spirit. Our stellar singers and dancers will be joined by our returning original-cast, internationally-renowned instrumentalists, Deepak Ram (bansuri), Diana Rowan (Celtic harp) and local favorite, Todd Jolly (percussion).

“Heaven Full of Stars” Caitlin Tabancay Austin and Elizabeth Kimble, sopranos; Celeste Winant and Gabriela Estephanie Solis, altos; Samuel Faustine and Tim Silva, tenors; and Matthew Peterson and Clayton Moster, basses, perform a program of dynamic, a cappella choral music covering eight centuries. Poets and musicians through the ages have looked to heavens for inspiration, solace, guidance, and celebration. These impulses are heard through the eclectic voices of composers from Medieval Italy, the Spanish Renaissance, German Romanticism, and today.
