Albany Consort Baroque Micro-Orchestra
“Albany Consort Baroque Micro-Orchestra Repaints the Past” Jonathan Salzedo, harpsichord; Marion Rubinstein, recorder; Laura Rubinstein-Salzedo, violin; Brandon Labadie, oboe; Georgeanne Banker, bassoon; and Gretchen Claassen, cello, perform arrangements of Monteverdi Ohimè dov’è il mio ben, Vivaldi Winter, Bach Cantata 189, and Bach English Suite in F. Vivaldi arranged some of his own concertos for this exact group, but not Winter, one of my all time favorites. Bach’s instrumental solo and ensemble music found its way into his cantatas, but never the other way round. Why not? Monteverdi took a chord pattern and used it as the basis of a beautiful extended madrigal – we want it back! Thus, this concert, featuring four of Jonathan’s arrangements for this group of six musicians that will amaze you with its rich sound. Half strings and half wind – the whole baroque orchestra in miniature.

Maria Tomillo, Historical dance
Introduction to Spanish dance, a two-part workshop, led by Maria Tomillo. The first half, scheduled for Saturday, January 13, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., will work from the Manuscrito Toscano; the second part, on Sunday, January 14, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m., will explore the work of Juan de Esquivel. Students may attend one or both parts of this weekend workshop. No previous dance background is needed.

“A Musical Banquet: Choice delicacies from the 17th and 18th Centuries” Les Violettes (David Wilson, violin; Corey Carleton, voice; Colin Shipman, viola da gamba; Violet Grgich, harpsichord) and Ensemble Vermillion (Frances Blaker, recorders; David Wilson, violin; Barbara Blaker Krumdiek, cello) perform gorgeous music by Bach, Buxtehude and Handel. To create an intimate space, you will be seated on the stage along with the musicians. And, as a special treat, Chef Bob Hurley will prepare a culinary feast of hors d’oeuvres to accompany the mouth-watering Grgich Hills wines at a reception on stage following the performance.
