Early Music Open Mic Night
Join us for Early Music Open Mic Night in the East Bay, 4th Wednesday of every month. This is your opportunity to perform early music in a friendly cabaret style setting. Instrumentalists, singers, soloists, groups, students, youngsters, professionals — all are welcome! Please email [email protected] with the date you’d like to perform. Time slots will be up to 15 minutes, and there will be six time slots on each night. A harpsichord/organ as well as a piano will be available on site. Food and drinks will be provided.

Resonance @ First Church Berkeley presents the Costanoan Trio
Representing “the best of emerging early music talent” in the United States (Early Music America), the Costanoan Trio will perform a program of Clementi, Haydn and Mozart on instruments modeled after those found in the 18th century. Comprised of Derek Tam (fortepiano), Cynthia Black (violin), and Frédéric Rosselet (cello), the Costanoan Trio was chosen from a national competition to perform at the 2018 Early Music America Emerging Artists Showcase. “Damning with Feints and Praise” Cheryl Koehler, Dorothy Manly, Jean McAneny, Ralph Prince, Scott Robinson, and Helen Wolfe-Visnick present an exploration of (mostly) secular works—his last four motets and three chansons from Rémède de Fortune—of the great French poet Guillaume de Machaut (ca. 1300–1377), plus four great works of their namesake Johannes Ciconia, and two one-hit wonders: the I senti of Jacopo, and Andrieu’s déploration of Machaut.

InterMusic SF presents SF Music Day 2018
Come listen local at the eleventh annual SF Music Day, the Bay Area’s free music festival in downtown San Francisco, presented by InterMusic SF. SF Music Day celebrates a sweeping panorama of music of our region, from string quartets to jazz combos, new music pioneers to chamber groups steeped in musical sounds from across the globe. With repertoire that spans inventive contemporary works and timeless classics, ensembles that range in size from duo to 7-piece band, and fresh young talents sharing the stage with seasoned veterans, SF Music Day showcases the dynamism and diversity of Bay Area music making. Come with open ears, to experience all that the Bay’s vibrant music community has to offer. All concerts are one half hour in length. Early music groups performing include Agave Baroque (noon), MUSA (3 PM), Liaison Ensemble (4:20 PM), and Musicians from Valley of the Moon Music Festival (6:10 PM). San Francisco Renaissance Dancers
Baroque Dance Workshop. The style of dancing popularized in the 17th century by King Louis XIV of France (who is said to have been a very accomplished dancer) is what we call “Baroque Dance.” We will learn and practice this graceful, easy movement that sparked the development of the classical ballet technique we know today. During the baroque era, dancing was a popular pastime at the court and in the countryside, and most people studied with dancing masters from a very young age. Dancing would earn respect from your peers and increase your romantic allure. Those who didn’t have dancing masters could learn dances from notations that were published and regularly distributed to the rabble. We will learn the basics of deciphering the dance notation as we follow the actual steps first danced over 300 years ago! We’ll start by refreshing our memory of the 18th century dance rhythms covered in previous classes—Minuet, Bourée, Chaconne, and Gigue—and then launch ourselves unflinchingly into a lively gavotte.
