Music at Noon for Community Tuesdays Lunch and Concert
“A la Mode au Monde with Musica Pacifica” Members of Musica Pacifica are among the Bay Area’s favorite period instrument stars, playing music that crosses historical and stylistic boundaries for no other reason than the pursuit of wild fun. The program will be a potpourri of medieval, Renaissance, traditional and world music, performed on a panoply of bowed, blown, plucked and hit instruments. These may include the recorder, clarinet, vielle, violin, harp, balalaika, harpsichord and multifarious percussion instruments! Performers are Judith Linsenberg, wind instruments; Shira Kammen, bowed instruments; Katherine Heater, plucked instruments; and Peter Maund, hit instruments.

Early Music Open Mic Night
Join us for Early Music Open Mic Night in the East Bay, 4th Wednesday of every month. This is your opportunity to perform early music in a friendly cabaret style setting. Instrumentalists, singers, soloists, groups, students, youngsters, professionals — all are welcome! Please email [email protected] with the date you’d like to perform. Time slots will be up to 15 minutes, and there will be six time slots on each night. A harpsichord as well as a piano will be available on site. Food and drinks will be provided.

Barefoot Chamber Concerts presents Calextone
“Una Panthera – Music of the Italian Trecento” Barefoot’s May Concert features Medieval music, itself a threatened species on the West Coast: Calextone’s “Una Panthera” is a program of the legendary music by 14th-century Italian composers and the northerners who lived in Italy. The program includes Johannes Ciconia’s hauntingly-beautiful madrigal Una Panthera, written in honor of the city of Lucca, as well as works by composers Francesco Landini, Vincenzo da Rimini, and Jacopo da Bologna, three of the many composers who appear in the sumptuous Squarcialupi Codex. Lively caccias, sensuous ballate and madrigali by some of the great composers of 14th-century Italy will make the trecento come alive again in Calextone’s performance.
Calextone is: Allison Zelles Lloyd, voice and harp; Frances Blaker, recorder and hammered dulcimer; Letitia Berlin, recorder, douçaine and psaltery; Shira Kammen, vielle, harp and voice. Calextone specializes in the music of western Europe from the 13th through the 15th centuries.

Spring concert: “Odes and Elegies” The Women’s Antique Vocal Ensemble (WAVE) present a concert on Memorial Day weekend featuring medieval and Renaissance music celebrating the living and memorializing the dead. The group will also be observing its 20th anniversary with favorite songs from seasons past. Music by Purcell, Josquin, Dufay, and others. With Tobi Szuts, viola da gamba, and Andrew Canepa, organ. “The King’s Letters” Lene Langballe, cornetto & recorder and Gilbert Martinez, harpsichord & chamber organ, perform music from the time of Christian IV, King of Denmark” Christian IV of Denmark was a magnificent patron of the arts. He cultivated a musical chapel with Italian and English musicians. There are also extensive letters and correspondence between him and Kirsten Munk, the second spouse of Christian. Their passionate and tumultuous relationship is highlighted with music and stories from their forbidden relationship, to their splendid royal marriage, to the first divorce in Denmark. Lene Langballe is among Europe’s most virtuoso cornetto players. Don’t miss this very special concert!
