Franco-Flemish Meets Venetian Polychoral at Fall Singers’ Retreat

The Renaissance Singers’ Retreat will convene on October 5–6, 2019.  This is our 33rd year! All good sight singers are welcome.  Our conductor, Professor William P. Mahrt of Stanford, has announced that we will be singing the works of Jacob Handl AKA Jacobus Gallus (1550–1591). Handl represented the Counter-Reformation in Bohemia, mixing the polyphonic style of the High Renaissance Franco-Flemish School with that of the new, polychoral, Venetian School.

We will be meeting at 9:00 a.m. on October 5 at the Albany Senior Center, 846 Masonic Ave., for the Saturday rehearsal and at 9:00 a.m. at the nearby Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Ave., for the Sunday October 6 rehearsal and 4pm FREE CONCERT.  Our conductor has announced that the performance is a necessary part of the workshop, that it is not possible to skip the performance or to attend for one day only.

The fee for the workshop is $115, which includes music, a continuous snack table, conviviality and a Saturday 5:00 p.m. sherry hour. Scholarships are available.
