On Sunday, November 17, the Third Sundays at St. Alban’s series presents the early music ensemble Flauti Diversi, who will take the audience on a musical tour of the Mediterranean in the Middle Ages in a program entitled “Music in the Garden of Delight: Song and Dance of the Medieval Mediterranean.”
The tour begins in Italy, continues into Spain, and ends in North Africa and Asia. The program unites two musical traditions and displays the kinship between Western medieval instrumental and vocal music, and music of the Ottoman tradition. Flauti performs songs and dances of the 13th and 14th centuries, devotional and rowdy, and Arabic repertoire.
Band members include: Dr. Frances Feldon, recorders & medieval flute; Allison Zelles Lloyd, soprano & medieval harp; Peter Maund, percussion; Sarah Michael, qanun; and David Rogers, oud. The musicians are collectively some of the Bay Area’s most esteemed long-time practitioners of the early and world music scene; they will be joined by guest artist Dave Rogers from Eugene, Oregon.
The concert starts at 4:00 p.m., in the Parish Hall of St Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1501 Washington Avenue (at Santa Fe Ave.) in Albany.
