Tibia Recorder Duo – Zoom Class
“From the Ground Up: Discovering the Beauty of the In Nomine in works by Gibbons and Baldwin”. We will explore two selections from this amazing body of polyphony, all based on a section of John Taverner’s early 16th century Mass which used the plainchant Gloria Tibi Trinitas as a cantus firmus, or ground/foundation for the song. You’ll have a chance to play the In nomine line in these consort pieces, holding the other voices together with its beautiful golden flame lighting the dense polyphony, as well as one other voice in each piece. Geared toward upper intermediate to advanced recorders and viols. Pitch: A=440.

Tibia Recorder Duo – Zoom Class
“Turning Notes into Music, Part III: Applying Technique to Music” In this class, we will continue the work from part II, and go into greater depth in issues covered in previous classes. All are welcome whether you took Part I or II or neither. Feel free to send in technique questions before class.

Have you always wanted the opening of Handel’s C major sonata to soar like an eagle? Your trills to sound brilliant or languid, just as the music asks? Your tonguing to be able to go from spritely to sinuous on demand? Learn how to express a piece of music the way you hear it in your head! In this Zoom class, Tish Berlin will teach one or two exercises for each area of basic recorder technique: breathing and blowing, articulation, and finger dexterity. After working on an exercise, the class will apply the technique to a piece of music. Exercises and music will be sent in advance. For intermediate and up recorder players. You will need an alto and tenor recorder at A=440.
