Bach, along with choral masterpieces by Mendelssohn and Brahms, two composers who were profoundly influenced by the Cantor of Leipzig and sought to emulate his style. Allan Rasmussen, harpsichord, performs Bach’s Goldberg Variations, in his West Coast Debut. Denmark’s leading harpsichordist, Allan Rasmussen is organist and music director of Frederiksberg Kirke in Copenhagen, as well as director of the Midsommerbarok International Festival in Frederiksberg. For this concert, he will be using a very special harpsichord built in 2010 by John Phillips of Berkeley, based on one built in 1722 by Johann Heinrich Gräbner, Dresden.
