Archetti Baroque String Ensemble’s first CD has arrived! A long time in planning and execution, the project was an effort that had generous financial support from the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, Centaur Records, and the Bay Area’s wonderful community of Archetti fans.
The disc’s program presents three of the amazing concertos of Dutch composer Pieter Hellendaal and two of the very best concertos from the famous Opus 6 collection of G.F. Handel. The CD was recorded in the naturally resonant acoustic of St. Stephen’s Church in Belvedere, with the sound beautifully captured by master engineer Peter Nothnagle. While most European recordings of these concertos are done with fairly large baroque orchestras, Archetti performs with a single player on each of the eight part books and the results have the clarity and detail of fine chamber music. In addition to co-directors Carla Moore and John Dornenburg, the new CD features Jolie Einem, David Wilson, Alicia Yang, Anthony Martin, Tanya Tomkins, and Davitt Moroney.
Because of the distribution backlog at the Centaur label’s distributor, Naxos, the CD will not be available in stores or online until January. However, Archetti has obtained plenty of advance copies which you may purchase directly from the ensemble. Contact John Dornenburg at [email protected] to get yours now!
