More about Between Dusk and Dawn – Homage to the Night
Nights are filled with dreams; darkness reveals starry skies, moonlight drains the world of colors. Sweet lullabies and the stuff of nightmares can live side by side during this period of rest, while some don’t sleep at all… Music inspired by the eternal dance of light and darkness, from day to night, and back again.
Save the dates in your calendars for what promises to be an exciting return to our in-person Recorder Workshop! Fill your days with recorder ensembles, technique classes, Renaissance consorts, recorder orchestra, masterclasses, concerts, lectures and more. Explore Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, contemporary and world music in an intimate setting with world-class faculty.
To attend this workshop, proof of “up to date” vaccination against COVID-19 will be required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “up to date means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible.” For additional policies for SFEMS, please visit our COVID-19 protocol page.
Upon registration, please send proof of vaccination (in .pdf or .jpg form) to [email protected].
All indoor spaces have windows as well as HEPA filtration systems to ensure good ventilation, and we will also have outdoor classes. Closer to the workshop dates, we will ask for your current level of comfort for playing together indoors or outdoors with other wind instrumentalists and singers.
As the workshops draw nearer, we will make adjustments as pandemic restrictions ebb and flow. We ask for your patience as we navigate these confusing times together.
SFEMS offers a nationally renowned series of summer workshops, first held in 1980, taught by acclaimed artists to over 300 amateur and professional musicians. SFEMS offers one of the most comprehensive summer early music programs in the United States, led by a faculty of international artists in residence. The Medieval and Renaissance, Baroque, Recorder, and Classical workshops offer instrumental and vocal master classes, lectures, coached ensembles, and recitals and provide opportunities for musicians and dancers at a variety of levels to improve their ensemble skills, performance techniques, and teaching abilities.
