This week, Berkeley Baroque Strings, directed by Kati Kyme, will be giving two performances at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in Berkeley, on Tuesday, March 1, and Sunday, March 6. The program features the “Cantata” Concerto in D with William Skeen, cello; the Violin Concerto in E with Kati Kyme, violin; Brandenburg Concerto No. 3; the Sinfonia from Cantata BWV 75; the Allegro from Cantata BWV 140; and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring from Cantata BWV 147.
An Affiliate of San Francisco Early Music Society, BBS welcomes new members. Amateur string players in the greater Bay Area gather in Berkeley each Monday evening to rehearse under the leadership of Kati Kyme, who conducts, instructs, coaches and inspires them in the essence of baroque style, technique and elegant musicianship. They play on gut strings, and A at 415 Hz. Performing an inaugural concert in December 2013, BBS ended its first season June 2014 by playing to a full house as a Berkeley Festival Fringe Concert.
St. Clement’s is located at 2837 Claremont Blvd., Berkeley. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday’s concert is free. Saturday’s is a fundraiser, with a $20 admission.
