Colorful baroque concerti and cantatas by Handel, A. Scarlatti, Telemann, J.S. Bach, Torelli, and Manfredini celebrate the joy of the season with sparkle and variety. ARCHETTI BAROQUE STRING ENSEMBLE was founded in 2010 by violinist Carla Moore and viola da gambist John Dornenburg to perform the rich chamber concerto repertory of the baroque era. The collective experience and artistry of Archetti’s members allow them to develop distinctive, dynamic and historically-informed interpretations without a conductor. The ensemble’s size is perfectly suited to the bountiful 8-part-book violin concerti of composers such as Vivaldi, Corelli, Handel and Torelli, and is also small enough for the intimacy of Bach’s harpsichord concerti. Their concert repertory has included the famous Brandenburg Concertos and Four Seasons, but they have also championed music by Henry Purcell, Giovanni Gabrieli, Heinrich Biber, Pietro Locatelli, and Pieter Hellendaal. The group’s first CD, Grand Concertos: Handel and Hellendaal, was released in 2014 on the Centaur label.

“Pure and shining” (Cleveland Plain Dealer) soprano CLARA ROTTSOLK has been lauded by The New York Times for her “clear, appealing voice and expressive conviction” and by The Philadelphia Inquirer for the “opulent tone [with which] every phrase has such a communicative emotional presence.” With a specialty in historically informed performance practice, she engages audiences in repertoire extending from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Her solo appearances have taken her across the United States, the Middle East, Japan and South America with ensembles including American Bach Soloists, Tempesta di Mare, Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Les Délices, Pacific MusicWorks, Opera Grand Rapids, St. Thomas Church 5th Avenue, Virginia Symphony, Atlanta Baroque, Magnificat Baroque, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Piffaro—The Renaissance Wind Band, Colorado Bach Ensemble, Trinity Wall Street Choir, Spire Ensemble, New Mexico Symphonic Chorus, ARTEK, and the Masterwork Chorus under the direction of conductors including Joshua Rifkin, Bruno Weil, Paul Goodwin, Jeffrey Thomas, John Scott, David Effron, Andrew Megill, and Timothy Nelson.
She has performed at the Carmel Bach Festival, Indianapolis Early Music Festival, Berkeley Early Music Festival, Philadelphia Bach Festival, Whidbey Island Music Festival, Boston Early Music Festival, and the Festival de Música Barroca de Barichara (Colombia) as well as on myriad concert series across the country. In collaboration with pianists Sylvia Berry and Byron Schenkman, and guitarist-lutenist Daniel Swenberg, Ms. Rottsolk has given recitals of song from the 17th to 21st centuries in venues including the Goethe-Institut Boston, Town Hall Seattle, St. Mark’s Church Philadelphia, and Swarthmore College. Among her stage roles are Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Ilia (Idomeneo), Eurydice (Ophée et Eurydice), Micaëla (Carmen), Semele (Semele), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Johanna (Sweeney Todd), and Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief).

Kathryn James Adduci has performed and taught throughout the world. A graduate of the University of Western Australia (BM), University of Georgia (MM), and the University of North Texas (DMA), she is currently Associate Professor of Trumpet and Brass Area Coordinator at San José State University. As a trumpet player she has appeared with numerous professional groups in Australia, including as a soloist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, as well as performing with other orchestras in Malaysia, Canada, and the United States. Kathryn is also highly-regarded for her work with historical instruments and performs with numerous period instrument groups in North America, including the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, and the Portland Baroque Orchestra. The featured soloist on the CD ‘Forte e Dolce’ with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, she can also be heard on the soundtrack to the Disney movie Casanova and on numerous recordings on other labels. Prior to taking up her position at SJSU, Kathryn taught the trumpet at numerous schools and universities in both Australia and the US.
