Old Dominion University – arts@ODU Summer Series
“The Music of the Mayflower: A Virtual Concert and Q&A”. Using original prints of the music that passengers on the Mayflower brought with them, music they would have known, and music about mariners, this presentation demonstrates the resilience of individuals – not only those who braved the voyage across the Atlantic, but also of musicians now who, during this unique time of physical distancing due to COVID-19, continue to find ways to connect with others near and far. This virtual concert presents music for solo voice, vocal quartet, and voice with lute and brings together professional musicians and educators from across the US who have used technology to rehearse and record their parts from their homes. Registration required by August 4.

Santa Cruz Baroque Festival – Online Concert Hall
“The Four Seasons Unusual Arrangements
of the classic composition”. This program presents ‘pocket’ arrangements of Antonio VIVALDI’s most famous orchestral work, The Four Seasons, a set of four violin concertos which were played all over Europe and became remarkably famous during his lifetime and after.
A year before this project, Artistic Director, Linda Burman-Hall, suggested that the dazzling pyrotechnics of ’’Summer’ be arranged by the virtuoso Violin-Guitar duo ‘Fire & Grace’ to match their ‘Winter,’ which greatly impressed me. Tonight we will hear both. The equally famous concertos ’Spring’ and ‘Autumn’ were arranged by the French composer Nicolas Chédeville to allow a recorder to play the lead instead of violin. The concertos were arranged many times by various musicians, and were played in all kinds of combinations during the Baroque and now. Please enjoy!
