California Bach Society, Paul Flight, Director
“Come to Zimmermann’s Coffeehouse!” Come sing with Paul Flight and members of the California Bach Society! Paul Flight will discuss and rehearse choruses from Bach’s secular cantatas. J.S. Bach directed the Collegium Musicum, heard in weekly concerts at Zimmermann’s Coffeehouse in Leipzig. Many of Bach’s secular cantatas were performed there. Workshop participants will sing choruses from Cantata 36, Schwingt freudig euch empor; Cantata 201, Geschwinde, ihr wirbelnden Winde; Cantata 206, Schleicht, spielende Wellen; Cantata 207, Vereinigte Zwietracht der wechselnden Saiten; and Cantata 30a, Angenehmes Wiederau. As is customary for our summer workshops, scores will be provided for all the music, and electronic copies will be available for download several weeks in advance.

“Journeys and Transformations” Tactus presents a Renaissance choral concert of a cappella motets by Guerrero, Palestrina, de Wert, Rore, and others, with organ interludes, poetry readings, and new Renaissance style compositions by the members of the choir. We will explore the theme of Journeys and Transformations, as we send off our founding director Tanmoy Laskar in his last concert in the Bay Area. Wine reception to follow.
