Barefoot Chamber Concerts
“Byrd on the Third” THE BAREFOOT ALL-STARS (Peter Hallifax, Julie Jeffrey, Shira Kammen, David Morris, and Lynn Tetenbaum; various sizes of viols with special guest WENDY GILLESPIE (treble viol) perform consort music of three, four, five, and six parts by William Byrd. To Barefoot’s eternal surprise and delight, the mid-winter viol consort music program has become hugely popular with the Barefoot audience. This year’s composer of choice is William Byrd, surely the best known Elizabethan/Jacobean composer as well as one of the most prolific. Byrd wrote music in all genres, secular, sacred, for court and chapel. He had the great fortune to be as greatly admired and loved during his life as he has been, consitently, in succeeding centuries. To make this truly delicious program possible, we are delighted to have been able to import, once again the world’s most sought-after treble viol player (not to mention the world’s most-travelled treble viol player), the legendary Wendy Gillespie, who will help us to make this project an evening to remember.

Set-up at 3:45 PM with downbeat at 4. The ebullient Ms. Shira Kammen will be our conductor. Come prepared to have a very good time with her. We will break for our potluck at 6 or so, and I am sure we will eat very well indeed. Please visit our “Join Us!” page for our membership form. But if you wish to attend for a first time as a non-member, it is free (with a $10 charge for additional monthly meetings thereafter until you join).
