Rossi score“Music for the Dedication of the Synagogue and Other Jewish Celebrations.” Final concert of SFRV’s 2013–14 Season, “Kol Israel: The Voice of Judaism in Early Music.” Featured works include the musical ceremony by Volunio Gallichi and Francesco Drei for the 1786 dedication of the new synagogue in Siena, Italy, as well as music for weddings, Shabbat and other celebrations; Louis Saladin’s Canticum Hebraicum for chorus and orchestra (1670), written for a circumcision ceremony in Southern France; plus music of Salamone Rossi and others. Sung in Hebrew with full translations provided. Pre-concert lecture by Rabbi Reuben Zellman 45 minutes before the performance.
