The SFEMS-CJC series opens on Sunday, October 15, with “Sprezzatura.” Judith Linsenberg, recorders; William Skeen, cello; and Katherine Heater, harpsichord perform virtuosic Italian sonatas from 17th and 18th centuries, including works by Castello, Frescobaldi, Corelli, Vivaldi, and Sieber.
Called “the Jascha Heifetz of the recorder,” Judith Linsenberg is one of the leading exponents of the recorder in the US, acclaimed for her “virtuosity,” “expressivity,” and “fearless playing.” She has performed throughout the United States and Europe, including solo appearances at the Hollywood Bowl and Lincoln Center; and has been featured with the San Francisco Symphony, the SF and LA Operas, the LA Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque, American Bach Soloists, the Portland and Seattle Baroque Orchestras, the Oregon and Carmel Bach Festivals, and others. She has recorded for Virgin Classics, Dorian, Solimar, harmonia mundi usa, and other labels.
Grammy-nominated cellist William Skeen performs as Principal Cellist with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, and Musica Angelica (Los Angeles.) He is co-founder of the New Esterházy Quartet, whose repertoire includes over 150 string quartets performed exclusively on gut strings. He is represented on over 80 recordings to date.
Katherine Heater plays early keyboards with Bay Area music groups such as New Century Chamber Orchestra, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Musica Pacifica and Voices of Music. Nationally she has performed with Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Catacoustic Consort and at festivals in Bloomington, IN, Miami, FL, and Whidbey Island, WA.
The CJC offers a casual and intimate environment where the audience can enjoy a light meal and sip a glass of wine or a cup of coffee while enjoying the concert. The concert starts at 4:30 pm at the California Jazz Conservatory, 2087 Addison Street, Berkeley.
