Concerted Vocal Works from Italy & Germany at the Baroque Collegium Musicum
The SFEMS Summer Baroque Worshop holds its winter collegium musicum next month, on Saturday, Feburary 25, at the Eden United Church of Christ, 21455 Birch Street in Hayward. Linda Pearse leads the collegium, which will explore the stylistic changes and compositional developments that occurred in concerted vocal music during the 17th and early 18th centuries, using the music of Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, Heinrich Schütz, and J.S. Bach as examples.
The collegium runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the day divided into two sessions of two and a half hours each. Resistration will be open from 9:00–10:00 a.m., with the first playing session running from 10:00 a.m.. to 12:30 p.m. There will be a lunch break from 12:30–1:30 (bring your own) and a seceond session from 1:30–4:00 p.m. Cost will be $50 (SFEMS members) and $65 (non-members).
Information about compositional approaches and style will be woven into the rehearsal format, with a primary focus on playing and singing. All pieces will include parts for voices and instruments.
Come have fun working with a specialist and sackbut player of this beautiful repertoire. Linda Pearse teaches sackbut at Indiana University Bloomington, brass instruments and pedagogy at Mount Allison University (Canada), and directs the early music ensemble ¡Sacabuche! Pearse also serves as artistic director of the SFEMS Summer Baroque Workshop, held this year June 18–25, 2017 at the Holy Names University, Oakland CA. More information about the 2017 Baroque Workshop will be posted soon.
Linda promises to provide parts for all instruments at all pitches 415, 440, and 465Hz. So come come one and all! Click here for more information and to register.
