We’re looking forward to another wonderful week at the Music Discovery Workshop this June! We’ll be back at the School of the Madeleine in North Berkeley, with our gifted Discovery faculty. Come join us for a week of music, dance, crafts, and story telling at the Music Discovery Workshop, June 22–27.

Our daily schedule includes dance, crafts, and outdoor games, and instruction in recorder, violin, viola, cello, viola da gamba, and harpsichord. As our theater project this summer, each afternoon class will enact a story from the Middle Ages, concluding, at the end of the week, with three gala performances on Friday evening, June 27.

We are very fortunate in the San Francisco Bay Area, to be able to draw on the talents and resources of an extraordinary group of musicians in the early music community.

Carla Moore, our violin and viola instructor, is Co-Concertmaster for Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Concertmaster for the Portland Baroque Orchestra; Vida Bateau, our recorder instructor and an active performer on recorder, reeds, and percussion, has been the Orff Schulwerk music teacher at Beacon Day School for 25 years; Shulamit Kleinerman, our theater project director, founded and administers Seattle Historical Arts for Kids. In 2011 she received Early Music America’s Outreach Award for her exceptional work; Farley Pearce, our cello and viola da gamba instructor, performs regularly with Sex Chordæ Consort of Viols and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, among other groups; Yuko Tanaka, our harpsichord instructor, performs annually with the Carmel Bach Festival and with many of the Early Music ensembles and orchestras in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Students and participants in the Music Discovery Workshop during the past several years have experienced the inspiring creativity of Amy Luper, our crafts instructor. Amy brings the fruits of her imagination alive by involving every child in creative and very artistic projects such as calligraphy, paper arts, silk painting, and more.

Many of you heard us in concert during the recent Berkeley Festival of Early Music (June 1–8). Please visit our website for all the details on this summer’s program. And check out Amy Luper’s delightful video of the 2013 Music Discovery Workshop and camp in action!

If you are curious and have not received Music Discovery Workshop’s brochure yet, please contact workshop administrator Katie Hagen. To register your child in Music Discovery Workshop, please visit https://sfemsarchive.com/?page_id=624.

Please join us for the 2014 Music Discovery Workshop, June 22–27, at St. Mary Magdalen and the School of the Madeleine, in Berkeley, CA. After-camp care is available by prior arrangement with the director.
