The Lute Society of America has had several of its rental instruments based here in the San Francisco area come back to us, and we are looking for new renters. The instruments now available are a 6-course vihuela, an 8-course Renaissance lute and a 13-course baroque lute. Renters must be LSA members, or join, and take lessons from a teacher who is part of our program. We have found that people don’t have much success with the lute as a DIY project. Update, January 30, 2015: The two lutes have been rented. The vihuela, a Spanish Renaissance instrument resembling a guitar but tuned like a lute, is still available.
