For the first time in three decades, we will have a new person at the helm of SFEMS communications. Jonathan Harris, our beloved Publications Manager, is retiring at the end of February; we thank him for his dedicated work in support of our community and wish him the best in retirement. While we are sorry to lose him, Jonathan is not leaving SFEMS, and we expect to see him and his wife, Patricia, at many future concerts.

With Jonathan’s retirement, we are excited to welcome Lorena Zapata as our new Marketing Communications Manager, an expanded position that will include website, social media and marketing duties. A native of Miami, Florida, Lorena began studying classical music at the age of three. She later attended the Florida State University College of Music, aiming to pursue a career as an opera singer and voice professor while simultaneously attending the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy to study international affairs and communications. Soon after graduating in 2013, however, Lorena had to cut short her musical career for unexpected medical reasons. But she discovered a blossoming career in digital marketing and communications, where she rekindled her passion for connection and storytelling. In joining SFEMS, Lorena is thrilled to return to her musical roots and hopes to bridge early music and our digital age.

During the transition process, we will continue to publish our weekly newsletter and calendar listings without interruption. Please send your submissions to both [email protected] and [email protected]. We look forward to continuing to serve as your first source for early music news in the Bay Area.
