Padre, Guida ed Amico: The Haydn-Mozart Connection
School of the Madeleine (1225 Milvia St., Berkeley)
June 11–17, 2023
Kati Kyme and William Skeen, co-directors
Enrollment will open soon, please check back!
Workshop format: Each day, except Wednesday, participants are assigned to a quartet with whom they will play in coached and uncoached sessions. In the evening, each group performs the day’s piece in front of the whole workshop. Wednesdays are for an all-day all-workshop orchestra.
To attend this workshop, proof of “up to date” vaccination against COVID-19 will be required. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “up to date means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible.” For additional policies for SFEMS, please visit our COVID-19 protocol page.
Upon registration, please send proof of vaccination (in .pdf or .jpg form) to [email protected].
As the workshops draw nearer, we will make adjustments as pandemic restrictions ebb and flow. We ask for your patience as we navigate these confusing times together.
The Classical Workshop is America’s only workshop dedicated to late 18th-century performance practice. We meet for one week in the summer to explore string chamber music of the Classical era. Morning and afternoon coaching sessions by the New Esterházy Quartet are followed each evening by informal performances of the day’s repertoire. Private instruction and colloquia on bowing and fingering complement our program. The workshop invites string players of all ages and abilities. Pre-formed ensembles are welcome too.
SFEMS offers a nationally renowned series of summer workshops, first held in 1980, taught by acclaimed artists to over 300 amateur and professional musicians. SFEMS offers one of the most comprehensive summer early music programs in the United States, led by a faculty of international artists in residence. The Medieval and Renaissance, Baroque, Recorder, and Classical workshops offer instrumental and vocal master classes, lectures, coached ensembles, and recitals and provide opportunities for musicians and dancers at a variety of levels to improve their ensemble skills, performance techniques, and teaching abilities.
This program has been made possible, in part, with support from ACMP Associated Chamber Music Players.
