Space Still Available for Spring Singers’ Retreat

mahrt_conductsThere is still room available for additional singers at the upcoming retreat March 14–15, 2015. It is being held once again at Alexander Hall in the Conference Center at the San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo. Join us for another round of good singing, great company and excellent food.

So, as in previous retreats, we sing all day Saturday and Sunday and end our weekend with a performance on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. for our friends and the public. A donation will be requested to benefit the San Francisco Early Music Society of which the Singers’ Retreat is an Affiliate.

Professor Mahrt has selected Missa Quam pulchri sunt by Tomas Luis de Victoria and is based upon his motet of the same name composed for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The text of the motet is from the Song of Songs and is full and rich; it is in a major mode, with decorations and beautiful figures. This will be supplemented with other motets and lectures illustrating the music and its historical context.

We take plenty of breaks (and frequently visit our bounteous snack table) during which we rest our voices and are treated to our internationally known conductor’s vast knowledge about the background of the music we are singing. Professor Mahrt’s approach is both easy going and demanding which makes for a stimulating and rewarding weekend for all. Our Saturday afternoon session ends with Happy Hour at 5:00, then the light supper we mentioned. Meals are catered (lunch both days, light supper on Saturday evening, and breakfast on Sunday), and are included in the registration fee for the weekend. Tuition is $125 which includes all of the above plus the music.

Overnight accommodations are available in the Conference Center ($60.00 for a single); $30.00 for a double.) To register for the retreat, please download the attached registration form and mail with your check to the address shown on the form.
