SFEMS Recorder Workshop
“Love and Peace” featuring the workshop Recorder Orchestra conducted by Rotem Gilbert and Hanneke van Proosdij; Faculty Recorder Consort Miyo Aoki, Louise Carslake, Rotem Gilbert, Joan Kimball, Anne Timberlake and Hanneke van Proosdij, recorders; and Peter Maund, percussion. The Recorder Orchestra program features music about Love and Peace by Cornysh, Gesualdo, Lotti, Schutz, Vecchi and Vivaldi. You can hear all sizes of recorder played together: garklein, sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, bass, great bass, contra bass, sub great bass and even a sub contrabass– super cool!

Valley of the Moon Music Festival
The third annual Valley of the Moon Music Festival celebrates the world of Robert Schumann over three consecutive weekends, July 16–30, juxtaposing the composer’s own compositions with chamber works by composers he idolized and championed. The festival continues: “Hats Off, Gentlemen! A Genius!” Elizabeth Blumenstock, violin; Kyle Stegall, tenor; Tanya Tomkins, cello; Eric Zivian and Jeffrey LaDeur, fortepianos, perform Songs and arias by Schumann and Chopin, Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin, and Keyboard works by Bach, Chopin and Liszt.

West Edge Opera
“Mozart and Friends” Join West Edge Opera for an evening of music by Mozart, Salieri, Süssmayr, and rarely-heard works of Mozart contemporary Vincente Martin y Soler, as popular in his day as was Mozart himself. The program also includes music by Maria Theresia von Paradis, a blind singer, pianist and composer whose works also are rarely performed. Plus, fortepianist Robert Mollicone will play Beethoven’s Eight Variations on “Tandeln und Scherzen” after the terzetto from Süssmayr’s opera Soliman II. The event takes place at Dashe Cellars, one of Oakland’s hottest wineries. Enjoy unlimited pours of Dashe Cellars wine and performances by Festival singers Malte Roesner and Samuel Levine, as well as soprano Aurora Perry. Robert Mollicone accompanies on fortepiano!
