Gesualdo square“The Italian Madrigal: Petrarca, Tasso, Guarini” Sonoma Bach’s chamber choir, Circa 1600, directed by Robert Worth, performs dazzling madrigals with music by Luca Marenzio, Claudio Monteverdi, Giaches de Wert, Filippe de Monte, and Carlo Gesualdo, setting texts by three great Italian poets: Francesco Petrarca (the great pioneer of Italian vernacular poetry) and two late 16th-century authors from Ferrara: Torquato Tasso and Giovanni Battista Guarini.

Marin Headlands Workshop
Pt. BonitaEast Bay Recorder Society presents its annual workshop for recorders (beginning to advanced levels) at the Point Bonita YMCA in the Marin Headlands, with beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, and San Francisco. This year’s featured instructors and coaches include Tish Berlin, Tom Bickley, Louise Carslake, Frances Feldon, Adam Gilbert, Rotem Gilbert, Michelle Levy, and David Morris. Full and partial attendance possible.

Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.

BlueMan6A program of celebratory Jewish music from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a virtuoso cello sonata by Giacobbe Cervetto, a cantata in celebration of a circumcision by Louis Saladin, plus works of Salamone Rossi, Abraham de Caceres, and Cristiano Giuseppe Lidarti. With soloists, chorus and orchestra.

Telemann“Art Inspiring Art II” MUSA (Emily Botel-Barnard, violin; Gretchen Claassen, viola da gamba, cello; Laura Gaynon, viola da gamba, cello; Addi Liu, violin; Joshua Romatowski, flute; Derek Tam, harpsichord) performs the second installment of “Art Inspiring Art,” an ongoing project to commission new works based on baroque masterpieces from emerging composers across the country. This concert premieres a new work of Los Angeles-based Andrew McIntosh (title TBA) based on Georg Philipp Telemann’s Paris Quartets. The program also will include selections from Telemann’s Paris Quartets.
